Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of riding do you teach?
Our lesson style focuses on the principles of dressage, but with that we also teach jumping and eventing if you own your own horse.
When are lessons offered?
Lessons are taught Monday thru Saturday, with morning and evening times available.
Do I need to own my own horse to participate in your lesson program?
No. RHR has a limited number school horses for those students that do not yet own or lease a horse of their own. Available lesson times will depend on our school horses' schedules. Please note: our horses do have their own individual weight limits, which allow them to perform safely and comfortably, and keep riders safe. Our maximum weight limit for school horses is 165lbs.
Please send us an email if you'd like to take lessons, but are over this limit.
Do I have to own my own helmet?
While it is recommended that students purchase a helmet of their own, RHR does have a few helmets available for student use. Helmets are mandatory for all riders when mounted, regardless of age or ability.
What should I wear to my lesson?
Riders will need boots with a 1" heel, preferably English paddock or tall boots, riding breeches or tights and a polo or well fitted t-shirt. Please, NO jeans, shorts, jewelry or tennis shoes. Parents and siblings are strongly encouraged to wear closed toe shoes. Please no flip flops or sandals.

Riders should wear clothing as listed above. If the rider is a minor, a parent must accompany the rider to sign the necessary release forms. If you need water or medication during your lesson, please be sure to bring it with you. Drinks and snacks are not provided on-site.

Can I feed the horses?
Unfortunately, you cannot feed the horses. However, if you would like to learn more about the full care of horses, it would be wise to sign up for one of our Horse Day Camps where you will learn about care, riding, and maintenance of horses....and then yes, you can feed the horses!
